I decided to work with the library of congress and volunteer to help review and transcribe information that they have. For the first campaign I investigated one stood out to me as my calling immediately. It stood out to me as it was the first one on the list which is the African American Perspectives in Print. I find especially in our current climate that it wants to suppress and erase black history that it’s extremely important to try and make sure black voices and history are documented in a format accessible to everyone.

It isn’t that creative what I have done other than of course transcribe an image over to a text on a website and review other people’s edits. The most interesting thing is the struggle of moving over charts and information boxes because it appears as the site doesn’t have a way to make those. A reason I truly wanted to start and help with this campaign is that I’ve used online databases to get black history before. Especially when I worked on course work in Emancipation and Reconstruction, firsthand sources from black voices in that time are absolutely needed. I wish to help the growing body of black history in anyway shape or form for I believe it’s a history most repressed and most deserving of the truth being shared openly without censorship.
